America's Move To Raise A Healthier Generation of Kids.
Mardi Solomon: Mardi Solomon, a coordinator of the Whatcom Farm-to-School Support Team, has been part of the Let’s Move! Blaine team since its infancy. Her role is to help build bridges between Let’s Move! Blaine and organizations with similar missions. “The focus of Let’s Move! Blaine on increasing access to fresh and healthy food and physical activity is a great fit with the goals of farm-to-school and our community partners. We all share the conviction that what we feed our kids matters.”
Heidi Holmes: Heidi Holmes is the Program Manager for Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2. She has served on the Let’s Move! Blaine committee and board since it began in 2011. Let’s Move! Blaine and the Park District make a great partnership in serving the needs of the health of our children. We believe that children need to stay active, and the park district offers many programs that keep kids “moving.” Heidi stays active herself by participating in strength training programs offered by the BBBPRD2 and running half marathons.
Dan Persse: Dan founded Let’s Move! Blaine in September of 2011 and has been Chairperson of the Board since. As a Nationally Certified Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Blaine School District for over 20 years, Dan’s integral role on the Board is bridging the community of Blaine with the healthy needs of the students of the Blaine School District. “The goal of LMB is forging partnerships within our community and the county to support our mission of providing for healthy opportunities for the students of the Blaine School District.”
Dan has been involved in numerous professional state and national PE programs and committees, assisted in developing both State and National PE Standards, and has worked on the legislative level to pass PE and Health policies.
Kelle Sunter: Kelle Rankin-Sunter has a passion for gardening, good nutrition AND community.
"Serving on the board of Let’s Move Blaine helps me do it all! My goal is to get more parents involved in the gardening process. This will hopefully result in better nutrition for a healthier overall community. Please join us!"
Kelle teaches gardening classes at the Blaine Library along with George Kaas (Blaine H.S. Horticulture).
In September of 2011, Blaine City Council declared Blaine as a Let's Move! city, supporting the national Let's Move! initiative.
The Let's Move! City program provided the perfect template to help Blaine become a healthier community. Ted Laed's quote, "It takes a healthy village to raise a healthy child" inspired me to develop this program by bringing together various health-minded leaders and resources of our surrounding communities to create and support the health of our school children.
